Downloadable Two Week Menu Plan

Menu-Plan-PDF

Today on the QuiltCast, Amy and I talked all about Quilt Backs (to piece, or not to piece?), Wide (108″) backing fabric, quilting disasters (you really should hear about the time I unpicked a queen size quilt…) and finally, we talked about our go to items in the kitchen.

The kitchen, you say?

Why yes. Because in addition to being quilters and designers, we’re also moms and humans. :) Gotta eat sometime. And staying healthy and balanced is KEY for my creativity to flourish. So. Kitchen tools were our top 5 this week. One of the tools I mentioned that helps save my sanity is this sweet little PDF I use to keep our menu and food choices organized. It’s so nice to have it up where everyone can see it–then they know what they are having for dinner and what their snack choices are without asking me 26 billion times per day. Also, the items I purchase that I need for meals haven’t mysteriously disappeared by the time I need them. Win-Win I say.

Thought I’d share the PDF with you, in the hopes it will make your world just a little more happy. :) And while it’s not quilting related, I figure, if you’re organized in one place, it just frees up time for more sewing, amiright?

Magazines, and Winner!

MagazinesDec2013-1

Wow you guys! It’s like you love April Showers fabric or something!

I have a few fun things to show you real quick and then I’ll get on with announcing the winner.

First: I got this fun quilt back,

MagazinesDec2013-3

and I had totally forgotten about it!

MagazinesDec2013-5

Because of printing deadlines, and magazine release timeframes,

MagazinesDec2013-4

I made this quilt way back in the spring, sent it off, and barely remembered it.

MagazinesDec2013-6

It was really fun to get it back, and have a Christmas quilt in my house this year!

MagazinesDec2013-2

I made it with various quilting cottons from my stash,

MagazinesDec2013-8

and backed it with a fabulous retro print from Michael Miller.

MagazinesDec2013-7

The backing fabric inspired my color choices on the embroidery. I mean really, who can resist pink, aqua, red, and green presents?

MagazinesDec2013-9

I did the embroidery with some really pretty floss from Sublime Stitching, and it has held its’ color through multiple washings, and hasn’t pilled up or lost texture. There’s no bleeding on to the white background. Basically, this floss rocks. And no, they didn’t pay me to say that. They have some great colors over there. Go check them out.

The Best Christmas Quilts magazine hit newsstands a few months ago, but I’d imagine you can still get your hands on it.

Speaking of getting your hands on magazines, my Mother-in-Law told me just the other day…

MagazinesDec2013-12

…that she saw that my very first magazine was out on the stands again, reprinted!

MagazinesDec2013-13

So, if you missed your chance to get a hold of Best Fat Quarter Quilts when it was out the first time,

MagazinesDec2013-11

and are just dying to make Confetti Parade,

MagazinesDec2013-10

head on out and pick up your copy before it’s out of print again.

MagazinesDec2013-14

I’ve had my Confetti Parade quilt hanging in my living room for quite some time now, and so far, I’m still not sick of looking at it.

Okay, enough of my chatter…

How about a winner?!

The winner of the April Showers layer cake, and a couple of my new patterns is Sue, comment number 28! (As chosen by random.org)

Sue, there’s an email in your inbox, message me back so I can ship out your goodies ASAP!

I’m gearing up to record another episode of QuiltCast with Amy Ellis tomorrow. Have you been listening?

New Fall 2013 Prairie Grass Quilting Patterns

newpatterns

Soooo. Patterns!

These are the new ones (SIX new ones!), and I’ve been working on them for what feels like forever—and I’m so excited to finally show you! It’s always a little bit terrifying to show new work, so instead of being nervous, I’m going to celebrate with a discount code instead! Now through Monday night, the 2nd of December, use code SMALLBUSINESS25 for 25% off anything in my shop! Happy Thanksgiving, Happy Black Friday, Happy Small Business Saturday, Happy Cyber Monday!

First up, Twinkle!

Pattern Covers-04 The pattern gives instructions for 3 sizes: large throw, twin, and queen. This version here is the throw size, and isn’t it just so pretty? My new friend Melanie made this quilt for me at the last minute–she’s a rock star. It’s made from Moda’s Weave basic. I can’t get over the COLORS. Love. I’ve also got a twin and queen to show you another day. Twinkle-2 Twinkle-8 Twinkle-6 Twinkle-4 Twinkle-3 Twinkle-1 Next up, Mind the Gap!

Pattern Covers-01 In two sizes, baby and queen, Mind the Gap is SUCH a fun quilt to make. It is sized just right to use precuts, and goes together in a snap. The fabric shown here is Tula Pink’s Fox Field–it is so vibrant and beautiful.

Mind the Gap-1 Mind the Gap-2 Mind the Gap-3 Mind the Gap-4 Mind the Gap-5 My third pattern this fall is called Gypsy Caravan. I love. this. pattern.

Pattern Covers-02 I had my awesome pattern testers (Hi Robin and Sara!) make two versions, and they are just stunning. Sara made a version out of Kate Spain’s new line Daydream.

Gypsy Caravan-13 Gypsy Caravan-12 Gypsy Caravan-2 Gypsy Caravan-1 Robin made one out of Carolyn Friedlander’s new line, Botanics. (The metallic gold in this line is perfection.) Take a look for yourself!

Gypsy Caravan-7 Gypsy Caravan-14 Gypsy Caravan-10 Gypsy Caravan-9 Gypsy Caravan-4 I backed it in Robert Kaufman’s chambray, so it’s nice and heavy, and really really fun to cuddle with. Also, the chambray shows off the quilting so well!

Gypsy Caravan-11 Okay, next is Morocco. Remember my obsession with little tiny squares? Yep. They’re back. My friend Sue pieced this for me, and good heck, she’s pro. This thing is GORGEOUS, and crazy precise. And the best part? She’s still my friend after making it. Score.

Pattern Covers-03 So, I know the squares are little, but it’s all strip pieced, so that helps, for sure–and the final quilt? Worth it.

Morocco-1 Morocco-2 Morocco-3 Morocco-4 Morocco-5 Morocco-6 Don’t Stop is the next pattern. This is the first pattern I have ever done in solids, and I have to say, it was pretty darn fun. My friends Stephanie and Shelly helped me with the piecing on these ones.

Pattern Covers-06 DontStop-7 DontStop-2 DontStop-3 DontStop-5 DontStop-4 And finally, Cozy Cabin! I think this one might be my favorite. In fact I’m pretty sure it is. Jelly Roll friendly, and super easy to piece, I might make a few more with the Jelly Rolls I’ve been hoarding. My samples were made from Jeanean Morrison’s True Colors line for Free Spirit Fabrics (Shelly made this one:), and April Showers by Bonnie and Camille for Moda. I still get googly eyes looking at them. Seriously.

Pattern Covers-05 Cozy Cabin-6 Cozy Cabin-5 Cozy Cabin-10 Cozy Cabin-100 Cozy Cabin-9 Cozy Cabin-3 Cozy Cabin-8 Cozy Cabin-4 Cozy Cabin-2 Cozy Cabin-1 Whew! Longest post ever!

So there they are! What do you think? They are posted in the shop in both paper and PDF versions.

Which is your favorite new pattern? Mine just might be all of them.

xoxo
