When I was a little girl, my Grandmother had a china cabinet that held many mementos from her travels in Asia. Among them, was a beautiful doll who was carrying a red paper lantern with gold detailing and a long lovely tassel. I remember wondering if a paper lantern would really work, or if the paper would light fire. Even now, I have a fascination with paper lanterns, and the shapes in the pattern reminded me of rows and rows of beautiful luminaries hanging from the ceiling. I just might have to throw a party this summer just so I can decorate my back patio with hundreds of paper lanterns. In the meantime, this cozy quilt will keep me warm and dreaming.
